How to choose your first chain
Gold-filled vs sterling silver vs 14k solid gold. Cable vs paperclip vs figaro. Match the right chain to the right client.

Material first
Three workhorse materials cover ninety percent of bookings:
- 14k gold-filled — bonded layer of real gold over a brass core. Looks like solid gold, holds up to daily wear, fits most budgets.
- Sterling silver (.925) — bright, classic, easy to size. Will tarnish slowly; aftercare matters.
- 14k solid gold — heirloom-grade, the highest price point, the cleanest weld.
Style next
Two chain shapes do the heavy lifting:
- Cable — round links, dainty, the classic look most clients picture.
- Paperclip — elongated rectangular links, more modern, a strong second choice.
- Figaro / Rope / Snake / Bead — specialty looks for layering, second pieces, or men's wrists.
Stocking ratio
A safe starter ratio for a first event is 60% gold-filled cable + paperclip, 30% sterling cable + paperclip, 10% specialty (rope, bead, figaro). Once you see your booking pattern, you'll know whether to lean gold or silver.
